The name of the future special school will be The Rainbow School. It will be located in Irente village. Irente is located in the West Usambara mountains. The Usambara mountains are situated in the northeastern part of Tanzania. Administratively, the Usambara mountains belong to Tanga region.

The ELCT-NED covers the whole area of Tanga Region. The diocese runs several institutions and four of them are located at Irente. The Rainbow School is therefore going to be the fifth institution of the ELCT-NED at Irente.

In the Bible, the rainbow is described as a sign of God’s covenant, a symbol of hope. The name “Rainbow” has been chosen in order to remind those at the school about God’s love, care and faithfulness to the whole creation.
